Project Description: A timely topic of interdisciplinary research in social cognitive neuroscience and philosophy of mind is the relation between self-consciousness and consciousness of other people. Understanding self-other relations is only possible if we address the role of other people in the constitution of self-consciousness: the way one experiences others - to understand them and/or to interact with them for building a shared world - cannot be addressed as if others did not participate to one's experience of oneself. The research project will investigate how inter-subjectivity participates to the constitution of self-consciousness, particularly in relation to the awareness of one's own body. The aim of this PhD project will be to investigate how interactions with others affect the experience of one's own body in sensation (e.g. sense of body-ownership) and action (e.g. sense of agency), using behavioral and neuroscientific techniques, in both normal and clinical populations.
